Dear Saint Andrews Members,
I'm delighted to be writing my first newsletter greeting to you as President. I look forward to working with each of you to help the Society to grow in a way that raises awareness of our goals, that increases our membership, and that leads to the completion of projects that are meaningful and enjoyable to you, the members.
Your participation has a direct impact on the success of the St. Andrew's Society of Tidewater-it can assure the success of each program and each project. You are needed.
At its first meeting in late March, the new Executive Council, approved the budget for 2002 as well as a plan for the year's activities.
Three main projects were outlined:
- Review membership and initiation process to determine the correct membership number for each member thus resolving missing numbers and duplications. In addition, determine who received a membership certificate and who did not. The completion of this project will be an awards ceremony at a meeting later this year.
- Reestablish the Scot of the Year Award. This award was presented only twice some years ago. It is, however, a grand way to honor those individuals in the Scottish community who have made significant contributions to the furthering of Scottish heritage and activities.
- Plan an educational seminar/workshop to be held during the day of Burns Nicht Supper in January. This type of event will provide an additional focus for the traditional evening event and will allow more to participate.
These three goals were adopted, in addition to the provision of quality speakers at dinner meetings, our scholarship program, an updated web site and other events throughout the year.
These events, however, do not occur without you, the members. Your active participation has a direct impact on the success of the St. Andrews Society of Tidewater-it can assure the success of each program and each project. You are needed!
If you haven't been to our monthly meeting in a while, consider joining us at Charlie's Seafood Restaurant on the first Monday in May, or at an informal pub night get-together at Quinn's once a month.
Your participation has a direct impact on the success of the St. Andrews Society of Tidewater-it can assure the success of each program and each project.
Looking for an outdoor opportunity? Volunteer to give a few hours helping out Sandy MacGregor at the Society display table at World Fest 2002 at the Oceanfront May 4th and 5th.
The opportunities are certainly there for fun, for learning more about our ancient heritage, for meeting new people, and helping make events successful. Whether you are an active helper with planning or presentation, or an enthusiastic attendee, I hope to see you all soon at an up-coming event.
Yours aye,
Carolyn
