President’s Message
Seasons greetings one and all.
The holiday season is upon us and I want to wish each of you happy holidays.

We have some wonderful events coming up that can be enjoyed by all in the community. By the time you receive this issue you may have already taken the opportunity to enjoy Laurin Witting, romance writer and author of ‘The Devil of Kilmartin’ at the November Society meeting and may have attended the annual Kirking of the tartan service at Christ and St. Luke’s church in Norfolk.

Following on the heels of the Kirking is a Scottish program at the Grissom Branch of the Newport News Public Library on Saturday, November 23rd from 2:00-4:00. The program will include singing, dancing, storytelling, genealogy, and more.

On December 4th, we will once again have our annual Christmas Ceilidh and silent auction. Bring your favorite finger food, enjoy the good fellowship, and make merry! Your donated item for the auction can be Scottish or holiday in nature.

On December 7th will be the Alexandria Christmas Walk. I hope all of you have signed up for the bus trip.

Finally on the 29th of December, Portsmouth will hold its annual Christmas Walk in downtown Portsmouth. This even has steadily grown over the years. Society members who will be marching should meet at 3:30 in the parking lot of St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Washington Street.

We continue to plan our Tartan festival but much help is needed. We need volunteers to step up and help plan and organize the event. We dearly need help in sponsorship and advertising in particular.

In closing, I would like to say to each of you, and to all of you, “May every happiness be yours on this glad holiday season…” And may the year that lies ahead be bright and happy too, filled with the nicest things.

Yours aye,
Larry

Society Bus Trip to Alexandria

The Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Alexandria and the annual Scottish Walk on Saturday, December 7th. There are still a few seats left. Please contact Manny Willis (423-7460 or mannyandrobin@cox.net) if you are interested in joining a fun way to travel to Alexandria and join in the festivities without having to drive and without having to park!

The cost is $30.00 per person. The bus will leave Virginia Beach at 4:30am on Saturday the 7th, and will leave the Peninsula pickup point at 5:15am. The bus will return by about 9:00pm. Plenty of time for the parade, lunch, and great Christmas shopping.
